In a quiet move last week, just after Target raised their free shipping minimum (for those without a Redcard) to $35, Amazon dropped the minimum order requirement for free shipping to just $25 (more information here)! This is great news for those of you who don’t have a Prime membership.
This is just the next phase of what’s been an interesting few weeks in retail. Retailers are being VERY competitive and the free shipping thresholds are one of the main focuses. In 2013, Amazon raised the free shipping minimum from $25 to $35, and raised it again to $49, which undercut Walmart’s $50 minimum. Walmart then dropped their minimum to $35 and upgraded shipping speed to 2-day delivery on most items.
The timing is perfect for the upcoming Prime Day sales, which will start at the first of July. While Prime Day is exclusive to Amazon, many other stores have been jumping in on the sales and offering Black Friday like prices. We’ll be posting the latest updates on Prime Day and similar sales in the Extreme Christmas Savings Facebook Group.
