In an optimistic attempt to recover their place in the holiday shopping season, Toys R Us is reopening hundreds of stores. After filling for bankruptcy in 2017 and closing stores shortly after, they have partnered with Macy’s to bring an updated shopping experience to families.
Even though it’s just been five years since the closure, children that are currently toy fans have never gotten to experience the magic of a large toy store and have never heard the ear worm of a jingle, which is now stuck in my head!
When is Toys R Us Reopening?
Grand opening events are set to take place from October 15th-23rd in select Macy’s stores, but you can shop now! Visit your store to take a picture with Geoffrey, participate in a scavenger hunt (and win prizes!), join in children’s activities, and enter giveaways from brands like Lego, Barbie, LOL, Little People, and Pokemon! You can also order online directly from Toys R Us or through Macy’s.
Where is Toys R Us Opening?
In addition to the Macy’s locations, Toys R Us is reopening 10 flagship stores. These stores can be found in cities such as Atlanta, Houston, New York, and San Francisco. Many Macy’s locations are already open, and they plan to have a location in all stores before the end of 2022. Here is a list of all open and upcoming locations.

When did Toys R Us Close?
Toys R Us filed for bankruptcy in 2018, and closed most stores nationwide. In 2019, two stores reopened and TRU attempted a partnership with Target, both of which were closed by January of 2021.
